Flinders University Lecturer Wins National Best Teaching Award

I congratulate Flinders University’s Professor Lesley Cooper for being recognised as one of Australia’s top university lecturers.

Professor Cooper was joint winner of the Social Sciences category of the 2003 Australian Awards for University Teaching. She received her award from the Federal Education Minister, Brendan Nelson in Canberra. The award comes with a $40,000 grant.

The Flinders University lecturer teaches in the Social Work Program in the School of Social Administration and Social Work.

Professor Cooper has engaged in considerable research on work-integrated learning in social work and social administration. She has gained an international reputation in this field and is invited to provide keynote addresses worldwide.

Minister Nelson has highlighted Professor Cooper’s strengths as having combined her interests in teaching, research and services to the Faculty, University and profession.

Professor Cooper was one of eight academics and five universities which were recognised at the 2003 Australian Awards for University Teaching, yesterday.

The Awards were established in 1997 to celebrate and help raise the status of Australian university teaching.
