Federal LNP Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott has thanked the employees and volunteers of the Southern Inland Queensland Area Consultative Committee (SIQACC) for its contribution to regional communities across Maranoa.

Mr Scott said June 30 marked the last day of existence for the highly respected SIQACC, which will close after enduring months of poor treatment from the Rudd Government.

“During the 2007 election Labor promised to expand the role of Area Consultative Committees under the re-branded name of Regional Development Australia, but since winning government the Rudd Ministry has left staff and volunteers in the dark over the future of the ACC network,” Mr Scott said.

“After months of uncertainty and lack of communication from the Rudd Government, the dedicated staff of the SIQACC were given just three weeks’ notice of their redundancy and told to pack up their office by 30 June.

“Southern Queensland’s Regional Development Australia entity was scheduled to start on 1 July but it will not open until September - and when it does, it will be with less funding and more red tape.

“The SIQACC staff and Executive Committee volunteers worked hard to implement fantastic community projects through programs such as the Regional Partnerships initiative, only to see funding for some of these projects revoked, their legacy trashed by Labor politicians trying to score points in Question Time, and their projects portrayed as pork barrelling.

“This is a sad day for Maranoa, which has lost a great group of staff and volunteers who dedicated hours and hours of their time and expertise to help grow and enhance their communities. I thank them all for their contribution to Southern Queensland, and I will continue to defend the great work they did for Maranoa,” he said.
