No Bonus for Disabled

Recipients of the Disability Support Pension remain the only pensioner group not to receive lump sum bonuses from this year’s Federal Budget, according to Senator Sue Boyce, Liberal Senator for Queensland.

“People receiving the Disability Support Pension are the only group of pension recipients that have not received a bonus in this budget,” Senator Boyce said.

“After pressure from the Coalition, lump sum bonuses initiated by the Coalition have at least been maintained.

“There is much anecdotal evidence to show that the lump sum bonus payment has been used for one off purchases such as washing machines and fridges, things that pensioners would not have been otherwise able to afford.

“But the Government has treated people with a disability as though they are not capable of managing money or making purchasing decisions.

“Providing a Utilities Allowance is only part of the answer, and those on Disability Support Pensions should also be entitled to the lump sum bonus that other pensioners receive,” Senator Boyce said.
