The Hon Bob Baldwin MP Federal Member for Paterson 5 February 2009

AUSTRALIAN TECHNICAL COLLEGE-HUNTER NOW OPEN Member for Paterson Bob Baldwin MP is delighted to be attending the official opening of the Australian Technical College-Hunter tomorrow, a Coalition funded initiative.

“As the Member for Paterson, I knew how important it was to ensure that there was a technical college for the Hunter community, so that our young people would have the opportunity to gain skills and pursue a career of their choice and that’s why I drove the Hunter as a site for the college,” Mr Baldwin said.

“The official opening of the Australian Technical College-Hunter is a realisation of the Coalition’s goal to provide specialised training opportunities for our young people and ensure people of all ages can train and re-train.

“Unfortunately, Labor did not keep this vision alive and instead pledged a very limited amount of funding to attach a ‘trades training centre’ classroom to high schools across Australia, a pledge which they have still not delivered on.

“No high schools in the Paterson electorate have had a ‘trades training centre’ classroom installed in their school, 14 months after they were promised to them by the Rudd Labor Government.

“Not only that, but Prime Minister Rudd also cancelled the development of a similar college that, as stipulated by the Coalition, was set to be opened in Singleton and in doing so, slashed the hopes and training prospects of many locals.

“I wish all the young men and women from Paterson that undertake training at the Australian Technical College-Hunter all the best for their studies and hope that it provides them with a strong foundation for future employment,” Mr Baldwin said.
