Oakeshott breaches Parliamentary entitlements

The Federal Member for Lyne Robert Oakeshott has been caught breaching his use of taxpayer funded entitlements, The Nationals’ Federal Director Brad Henderson said today.

Mr Oakeshott today issued a joint press release from himself and the Independent candidate for Cowper John Arkan. The press release was distributed by Mr Oakeshott and it was uploaded on Mr Oakeshott’s website.

Mr Henderson said Mr Oakeshott had clearly breached his parliamentary entitlements.

“According to the Federal Department of Finance list of entitlements, Mr Oakeshott has claimed more than $3,200 in entitlement for internet services in the past 12 months,” Mr Henderson said.

“Senators and Members’ entitlements are established by Acts of Parliament. In the Department of Finance’s Senator and Members Entitlement book it clearly states:

“it is recognised that in carrying out their electorate business Members may use their entitlements in support of their own re-election but not in support of another candidate;”

“I have written to the Department of Finance highlighting this abuse of entitlement.

“Mr Oakeshott needs to explain what action he proposes to take to repay the money to taxpayers,” Mr Henderson said.
