No charge to replace passports damaged or lost in the Katherine flood disaster

I have decided today to waive fees for replacing current Australian passports lost or damaged in the Katherine flood disaster.

The recent flood disaster has severely affected the lives of Katherine's residents. Homes and businesses have been wrecked. Personal effects, tools and equipment have been damaged or lost. With the help of the Federal and Territory Governments, and many groups and individuals, the people of Katherine are starting to re-build their lives. An important part of the process of getting life back to normal is replacing valuable personal documents, including passports, that were damaged or lost in the flood.

As a part of the Federal Government's ongoing commitment to help the people of Katherine get back on their feet, fees normally charged to replace current Australian passports lost or damaged in the flood will be waived. Replacement passports will have the same expiry date as passports damaged or lost in the flood.

Katherine residents wishing to replace passports damaged or lost in the flood should telephone the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Northern Territory Office in Darwin on 08 8982 4199.
