APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY PRESIDENT TO DEFENCE FORCE DISCIPLINE APPEAL TRIBUNAL

Attorney-General Robert McClelland today announced the appointment of Justice Margaret White as Deputy President of the Defence Force Discipline Appeal Tribunal.

“It is with great pleasure that I announce Justice White’s appointment,” Mr McClelland said.

“Her combined judicial and military experience will be a great asset to the Tribunal.”

The Defence Force Discipline Appeal Tribunal hears and determines appeals from courts martial and Defence Force magistrates in respect to service offences by Australian Defence Force personnel.

Justice White’s appointment will expire in 2013, when she reaches the retirement age for judges of the Supreme Court of Queensland.

Justice Margaret White

Justice White has been a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland since 1992.

She served as a Second Officer in the Women’s Royal Australian Naval Reserve between 1968 and 1973, and has been a Commander with the Royal Australian Naval Service Reserve since 2002.

Her extra judicial appointments include that of Deputy Chancellor, University of Queensland, which she has held since 2006. In 2001 she was awarded the Centenary Medal for distinguished service as a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
