Brown calls for action on Balibo Five

Media Release | Spokesperson Bob Brown

Thursday 23rd July 2009, 4:40pm

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown has called on the Attorney-General and

Minister for Home Affairs to explain why no action has been taken following

recommendations in 2007 from the NSW coroner in relation to the deaths of the

Balibo Five.

The NSW Deputy State Corner Magistrate Pinch made recommendations which

suggested war crimes may have been committed by Captain Yunus Yosfia. Almost 2

years later no substantive action appears to have been taken.

“I have written to the Minister and the Attorney-General again today asking for an

explanation,” Senator Brown said.
