Kelly welcomes Parliament passing the government’s Nation  Building and Jobs Plan    The Federal Member for Eden Monaro, Mike Kelly has welcomed the passing of the Rudd Labor Government’s $42billion National Building and Jobs Plan.

Dr Kelly said this plan will mean a boost to the economies of every town and community in Eden-Monaro.

Towns across Eden-Monaro will benefit from new investment in education, roads, local infrastructure; supports jobs, the homeless and farmers; tackles climate change and is set to help boost local economies.

This package will deliver a number of important initiatives for Eden-Monaro, including:

• Every one of our 62 primary schools will have capital funding provided for essential new buildings and upgrades;

• Eligible families will be able to install insulation in the family home for free or apply for a rebate of up to $1600 for solar hot water.

• 9,035 families will receive a Back to School Bonus of $950 to help with the costs of kids returning to school

• 234 farmers and small businesses affected by the drought will receive a Hardship payment of $950

• Up to 4,013 students and people looking for work will receive a Training and Learning Bonus of $950 to support their study costs

• People whose taxable income was less than $100,000 in 2007-08 will receive up to $900.

Dr Kelly said: “The passing of this package is an important step in helping to stimulate our local economies across Eden-Monaro.

“Payments will start flowing to people during March and April followed by the significant investment from investment in schools, roads and local infrastructure.

“I am looking forward to this money flowing into the towns and communities across the electorate.

“These are tough economic times and this plan strikes the right balance between supporting growth and jobs now, and delivering the investments needed to strengthen the economy for the long term.

“This package will be a boost to local economies and importantly local business, through building new infrastructure, more employment and a better education for our local children.

“This is an investment that will keep giving back to our towns”, Mike Kelly said.
