Penny Wong Labor Senator for South Australia Shadow Minister for Employment and Workforce Participation, Corporate Governance and Responsibility

Thursday 10 November, 2005

"On a day when Hardies will report strong profits, it is extremely disappointing that still no agreement has been signed on asbestos victim's funds," Shadow Minister for Corporate Governance and Responsibility, Senator Penny Wong said today.

"Labor calls on Hardies to urgently make the funds available for mesothelioma victims and their families. The longer these negotiations drag on the worse it gets for them.

"Hardies’ insistence that getting the deal right is more a priority than rather than working to a deadline is wide of the mark," said Senator Wong

"Asbestos victims and their families need access to this compensation fund now."
