Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Local Government, Maxine McKew, today inspected the site of the future Hilton Community Precinct development on Paget Street in Hilton.

Ms McKew toured the site with her federal colleague, Fremantle MP Melissa Parke, viewing plans and discussing the project with councillors and officers from the City of Fremantle and the Fremantle Police Citizens and Youth Club.

"In Fremantle, as in every local government area around the country, the Rudd Labor Government is supporting jobs today by building the infrastructure for tomorrow," Ms McKew said.

"Community infrastructure like the Hilton Community Precinct is a key part of the Government's $42 billion Nation Building - Economic Stimulus Plan."

"The Rudd Government has provided $3.25 million for this project from our $1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program."

Ms Parke said that, when completed, the redevelopment centred on the PCYC and Progress Hall would transform that part of Hilton.

"This new precinct will integrate, upgrade and expand the existing services in the Paget Street / Rennie Crescent area. Among the additions will be a new arts workshop."

"As part of the revitalisation the PCYC will be linked with the neighbouring Progress Hall through the construction of a shared entrance and facilities."

"The project will deliver direct jobs during the construction phase, and provide a first-class youth centre for the local community that will be the focus for a range of social inclusion and youth development activities," said Ms Parke.

"The Hilton Community Precinct is one of thousands of local projects around Australia which has been made possible by the Rudd Government's investment in
