Senator Brown message of condolence on Afghanistan deaths

Media Release | Spokesperson Bob Brown

Tuesday 8th June 2010, 12:49pm

Senator Brown expressed his condolences to the families, friends and communities affected by the deaths

of two Australians in Afghanistan who died in the service of their nation.

Senator Brown reiterated that the Australian Greens oppose the deployment of defence forces in

Afghanistan and called for troops to be brought home, and for a greater contribution of civilian aid to be

delivered.

With President Karzai negotiating with elements of the Taliban, Senator Brown called on the Rudd

Government to outline an exit strategy for Australia's defence force personnel from Afghanistan.

President Obama has mooted the withdrawal of US troops next year and Dutch forces are currently being

withdrawn.
