More Australian jobs go offshore

Another great Australian icon, Fletcher Jones, is to close its factories in Mount Gambier in South Australia and Warnambool in Victoria, leaving around 70 people without jobs.

Federal Labor expresses disappointment that the company has had to make this decision. Australians have been buying quality Australian made clothes at Fletcher Jones since 1924.

Our sympathies are with all Fletcher Jones employees and their families at this distressing time.

Labor calls on the Howard Government to step in and assist the families affected by these closures.

The Howard Government has promised a labour adjustment program for the TCF sector, but has yet to deliver.

This is not good enough.

The Fletcher Jones workers need assistance now.

A Latham Labor Government is committed to a comprehensive TCF labor adjustment program, with a focus on language skills, vocational training and in finding workers new jobs.
