MEMBER FOR FRASER

WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, COSTELLO GETS LOST

When news is good, Treasurer Peter Costello is always there to take the credit.

When the January job numbers showed an unbelievable leap in employment, Mr Costello said:

The good news in January, another 111,000 Australians found work.

Now that figures show unemployment is rising, with last month’s figures showing a 42,800 fall in employment, all we hear is stony silence.

He can’t have it both ways. If he takes the credit for the good news, he should front up when the news is bad.

Mr Costello’s silence shows he is keen to perform for the cameras when the news is good, but he’s nowhere to be seen when the going gets tough.
