MINISTER OPENS NEW IMMIGRATION OFFICES IN MELBOURNE

The Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Philip Ruddock today officially opened his Department's new offices at Casselden Place, 2 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.

M r Ruddock said the new improved layout o f the ground floor area is designed to improve services to clients and to provide a better working environment for staff.

"The Department o f Immigration and Multicultural Affairs is required to work across a range o f areas and I commend Victorian DIMA staff on their dedication and commitment to providing a professional and accessible service to its varied clients," Mr Ruddock said.

The Minister said he expected the Department to continue to be oriented towards major stake holders, including business and educational bodies, community and service provider groups, and other levels o f Government.

"I know that in Victoria, a lot o f effort and focus have already gone into developing and maintaining these partnerships with client groups," the Minister said.

"The Government is clear about its expectation that planning o f the migration program and its decision-making processes will be administered openly and consistently," Mr Ruddock said.

"The Government is committed to the pursuit o f a multicultural Australia, and to continuation o f the immigration program which has been so beneficial to Australia's development," he said.

M r Ruddock said the Federal Government would be looking closely at achieving best service to clients in an effective and efficient manner and in so doing, helping to build a better and stronger Australia.
