$128 million for ICT in Australian Schools

Australian schools have been able to apply for computer and technology equipment through the Howard Government’s $1.2 billion Investing in Our Schools Programme.

To date, almost $130 million has been provided to schools who have listed computers as a priority for their school.

Mr Rudd’s claims today about second hand ICT equipment in Australian schools are wrong.

The Computer Technologies for Schools project referred to by Mr Rudd was a joint State and Federal Government initiative which offered surplus Government technology equipment to schools free of charge.

While popular when it commenced in 1998, schools are now accessing significant funding for technology from State Government programmes and the Investing in Our Schools Programme.

As the programme is no longer necessary it not expected to continue.
