Federal Treasurer - Peter Costello - will open this year’s ACME Field Days at Warrnambool.

Member for Wannon - David Hawker - said today he was delighted that Mr. Costello had accepted the invitation to attend the field days.

Mr. Hawker said Mr. Costello was one of the most senior members of the Federal Government and his attendance at the ACME Field Days was an indication of their importance to the diary industry.

“Mr. Costello’s participation in this year’s field days also speaks volumes for the work done by field days chairman, Tony Rae and his committee ,” Mr. Hawker said.

“The field days now attract record numbers of exhibitors and organisers have now filled all exhibitor space.

“On top of this I have no doubt that this year’s field days in February will have record attendances.

“The dairying industry in the south west is now bigger than Gippsland’s and this is born out by the success of the ACME Field Days.”

Mr. Hawker said Mr. Costello’s official visit to the field days would give him a valuable insight into the growth of the dairy industry in the south west.

He said the visit would also be a good opportunity for the Treasurer to meet with many of the people driving its growth.

Mr. Costello will officially open the 2003 ACME Field Days at Midday on Friday February 21.

Release Ends.
