David Feeney, Senator for Victoria, joined Mayor Alex Makin from the Maroondah City Council today to celebrate the opening of the renovated Dorset Golf Course, delivering much needed improved facilities to the Croydon community.

Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government, said that 34 jobs were created during construction of the project, providing an economic boost to the local economy.

“The Rudd Labor Government provided $295,000 to the Maroondah City Council for the project from our $1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).

“The RLCIP is a key part of our Economic Stimulus Plan and is delivering local jobs in communities across Australia by building infrastructure for the long term,” Mr Albanese said.

“It’s a pleasure to be here in Croydon today to celebrate the completion of this important project,” Senator Feeney said.

“The project involved the redesign and extension of the building’s interior, the installation of a new heating and cooling system, and the construction of new office space for golf professionals.

“These improvements will be of great benefit to approximately 60,000 golfers who visit the course every year.”

Mr Albanese said in partnership with every council in the country the Australian

Government is delivering almost 5,000 small and larger scale building projects like these, including new and refurbished public libraries, sporting facilities, parks and playgrounds, and child care centres.

“In fact, we are making the single largest federal investment in community infrastructure through the RLCIP,” Mr Albanese said.

Mr Albanese and Senator Feeney congratulated the Maroondah City Council and the community for helping deliver this project and helping to build a stronger region for the future.
