The Horsham Soccer Club has been funded $2050.00 as part of an Australian Government initiative to boost leadership opportunities for women in rural and remote areas.

The Nationals Federal Member for Mallee, John Forrest said the funds will be used to provide coaching clinics for women to help the women become coaches and officials for the Soccer Club.

“The Australian Government has targeted four key areas that will encourage and support the full involvement of women and girls in all aspects of sport. Successful grants include those programs aimed at women from rural and remote areas, Indigenous women, women in disability sport, and women from culturally and ling uistically diverse backgrounds.”

Mr Forrest said the Government was keen to ensure the provision of similar leadership opportunities for women from remote areas as in metropolitan areas.

“Not only are programmes like these important for women, but they provide important services to their local communities. “

“Sport helps to create links between the sporting sector and the broader community.”

Sport Leadership Grants provide opportunities for successful candidates to learn and develop leadership skills through sport, and is promoted by the Australian Government through the Office of the Status of Women and the Australian Sports Commission.
