27 May 2005 C25/2005

REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS FUNDING FOR COORANBONG

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Cobb, has approved Regional Partnerships programme funding of over $3,800 to assist Westlakes Seniors Computer Club Inc with its Westlakes Acoustic Loop Amplifier project.

Cooranbong (population 3600) is a township located in the Morriset district, 116 km North of Sydney on the western side of Lake Macquarie

The Australian Government funds would go towards the purchase of the Amplifier for the Computer Club.

"The Amplifier will be used by the hearing impaired to get involved in club activities as well as increase computer literacy," John Cobb said.

"I would particularly like to thank the Hunter Area Consultative Committee for helping to bring this project to fruition," Mr Cobb said.

"Regional Partnerships continues the Australian Government's approach of working with local communities to support their ideas.

"I congratulate Westlakes Seniors Computer Club and the local community for working together to access Regional Partnerships funding and urge other community groups or businesses to develop social or economic capacity building projects that could be undertaken in the region", said John Cobb.

There is $447.7 million available under Regional Partnerships from 2004-05 to 2008-09.

Regional Partnerships will deliver benefits to communities well into the future, not only from programme funding, but from the higher levels of economic activity and improved social amenity which the programme is generating.

Since its inception in July 2003, Regional Partnerships has, on average, attracted a further three dollars from other sources for every dollar invested by the Australian Government.

Communities should contact their local Area Consultative Committee* if they wish to seek funding through Regional Partnerships."
