NEW JUDGE FOR THE FEDERAL COURT OF AUSTRALIA

 

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr James Allsop SC as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Mr Allsop has practised as a barrister at the New South Wales Bar since 1981. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Laws degree, with first class honours, from the University of Sydney. Mr Allsop was awarded the University Medal for law in 1980.

At the Bar, Mr Allsop has practised in commercial law and public law in areas including trade practices, intellectual property, shipping and admiralty, insolvency, insurance, company law, tax, equity, professional negligence, constitutional law and administrative law. He has been involved as a junior and as a silk in the High Court, the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He was appointed as Senior Counsel in 1994.

Mr Allsop will be based in Sydney and take up his appointment on 7 May 2001. He will replace the Hon Justice Marcus Einfeld who retired from the Court last month.
