MEDIA RELEASE

The Treasurer, Mr John Howard and the

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Andrew Peacock,

today announced that the Government had decided that

donations during the current financial year from the

Australian public to the International Disaster

Emergency Committee's Kampuchean Relief Appeal

would be deductible for income tax purposes·.

The Ministers said that although the

Government would be giving considerable humanitarian

assistance to the people ofKampuchea they considered ' . J ' ' V? · -

that the massive human suffering occurring in Kampuchea > ■ . .

required a special and wider response from all

Australians. .

The Government hoped that this concession,

which would operate for donations in excess of $2.00

received between 1 July 1979 and 30 June 1980, would

epcourage this response. ·

Donations to the appeal will be received by

all Trading Banks or by mail to G.P.O. Box 9900 in all

capital cities.
