STATEMENT BY THE TREASURER, THE RT HON PHILLIP LYNCH, MP TENTH ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK

The Treasurer, Mr Phillip Lynch, said today that Mr R.I, Viner, the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Minister Assisting the Treasurer, will be attending the tenth Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank which is to be held in Manila, Philippines, between 21 and 23 April.

Mr Viner will be attending the meeting on behalf of Mr Lynch, who is the Governor for Australia of the Bank. .

The Asian Development Bank, which is comprised of 42 member countries, was established in 1966 for the purpose of providing finance and technical assistance for productive projects in developing member countries.

This is a meeting of Governors of the Bank, or their representatives, which reviews the operations of the Bank during the past year and discusses future activities and policies.

Some of the specific matters with which the Meeting will be concerned are the need for a further replenishment of the resources of the Asian Development Fund, the concessionary lending arm of the Bank and the election of the Executive Directors of the Bank for a further term of two years from April 1977.

Mr Viner will take the opportunity of the visit to have discussions with Mr Yoshida, the President of the Asian Development Bank and as appropriate, \vlth. Ministers from other member countries of the Bank on matters of mutual

interest.

Mr Viner will be back in Australia on Monday 25 April.
