STATEMENT BY THE TREASURER, THE HON JOHN HOWARD, MP

SPECIAL BONDS SERIES V - CONVERSION OFFER

The Treasurer, the Hon John Howard, MP, said today that Special Bonds -

Series V would mature on 1 Oct 1978.

An amount of $36.8 million is presently outstanding.

Mr Howard said that holders of Series V, would be offered the

opportunity to convert their holdings, on maturity, into the current

series of Australian Savings Bonds - Series 12.

Holders who wish to convert into Australian Savings Bonds - Series 12,

should make arrangements to convert their maturing securities on or

before 13 October with their bank, or through any member of a recognised

Australian Stock Exchange* or at an Inscribed Stock Registry located at

a branch of the Reserve Bank.

Terms and conditions of the conversion offer are set out fully in

prospectuses now being circulated to banks and stockbrokers.
