TREASURER

(PRESS) [ [ release] ]

EMBARGO

NO.

STATEMENT BY THE TREASURER THE HON JOHN HOWARD MP AUSTRALIAN GOLD COLLECTOR COIN

My press release of 25 September 1980 indicated that, while the

offer of the 1980 $310 proof version of the gold collector coin had

closed, I had arranged for the offer of the $240 uncirculated

coin to remain open for the time being at the Mint.

With the end of the year approaching and the need for the Mint

to prepare for its commitments in the new year this offer

must also be closed. Accordingly, no further orders for the

1980 uncirculated coin will be accepted by the Mint after

12 December 1980.

Those who may still wish to place orders for the uncirculated

gold coin can do so by writing immediately to the Royal Australian

Mint, Canberra, 2600 enclosing a cheque or a money order for the

appropriate amount (that is, $240 per coin). Orders must reach

the Mint by 12 December 1980 and will be processed by the Mint

in the order in which they are received. Because of the continuing

heavy work program of the Mint, coins to meet such orders will

2

not be ready for despatch until about the end of January 1981.
