UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

The Australian Government has contributed more than $5,000 towards the costs of bringing five prominent Asian educationists to Adelaide to participate in the University of Adelaide's Centenary Celebrations. ·

Announcing this in Adelaide today, the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Whitlam, said that the Asian visitors would take part in a seminar on "Asian-Australian Educational and Cultural Relations - Past, Present and Future", which would be a feature of the University's celebrations.

He said that the visiting Asians would b e :-Professor Dr. Slamet Iman Santoso, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Indonesia, Jakarta.

Professor Kernial Singh Sand’ nu, Director, Institute of South-East Asian Studies, Singapore.

Professor R.L. Huang, Vice-Chancellor, University' of · Hong Kong.

Professor Syed Alatas, Director of Malay Studies, University of Singapore. ’

Professor Datuk Ariffin bin Hj. Ngah Marzuki, Vice-Chancellor, the National University of Malaysia.

Mr. Whitlam congratulated the University of its initiative in arranging such a seminar, the aims of which he said, conformed closely with the Government's interests in furthering Australia's relations with the countries of Asia.
