W.A. CELEBRATIONS .

The Prime Minister has announced that as a result of

Government decision the Australian.defence forces will make a further substantial contribution to the celebrations

marking the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the .

founding of Western Australia.

The Australian Government's further contribution will

include the staging of a Military Tattooo, at which there will be international representation; support for the

Parmelia Yacht Race, from Plymouth to Fremantle, by the provision of RAN radio relay and escort vessels for part

of the journey; and the entry in the race of Anaconda II,

crewed by members of the Navy, Army and Air Force. In addition

the Government has agreed that the Fifth Military District

Band in Perth will be maintained at its current strength.

The Government has already announced a gift of $750,000 towards the cost of construction of a world-class hockey stadium in Perth. A further $250,000 is being raised by the Hockey

Association in Western Australia. The Stadium will be known

as the Commonwealth Hockey Stadium. . . .

Mr Fraser said that the Government was very pleased to join

with the Government and people of Western Australia in their celebration of this significant occasion in their history.
