Singapore has recen tly asked for training a ssista n c e in A ustralia fo r certain of its Arm ed F o r c e s . T he A ustralian Government has been considering the request th is week and, in accordance with its long-standing policy of a ssistin g the build-up of the defence cap ab ilities

of both M alaysia and Singapore in the F iv e Power context, has agreed in princip le to allow the u se of training fa c ilitie s .

The Government is proposing that Singapore send a technical team to A ustralia to make an on -th e-sp ot evaluation of the fa c ilitie s which could be provided and to d isc u ss p ractical asp ects including lo g is tic s and m aintenance. F irm d eta ils would then be

worked out.

The fa c ilitie s would be provided at existin g Australian defence installation s and the types of training under consideration a re field and a n ti-a ircra ft a r tille r y , a ir weapons and arm oured v e h icles.
