VISIT BY PRESIDENT NE WIN OF BURMA

At the invitation of His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Paul Hasluck, His Excellency U Ne Win, President of the Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma and Chairman of the Council of State, will begin a State visit to Australia tomorrow.

Mr. Whitlam said today that U Ne Win would spend seven days in Australia and visit Canberra (28/29 May), Melbourne (30/31 May) and Sydney (3lMay/4 June).

Mr. Whitlam said he looked forward to meeting U Ne Win in Australia and to continuing the friendly and extensive discussions they had had in Rangoon in February this year.. He was sure that Australians would join with him in extending a warm welcome to such an outstanding Asian leader.

The Prime Minister expressed his disappointment, and that of his wife, that Daw Ni Ni Myint was not able to accompany her husband to Australia.
