TRAVEL TO IRAN AND IRAQ

The Department of Foreign Affairs advised today that with the fighting continuing betweeen Iran and Iraq Australians should consider carefully the desirability of travel to these countries and should contemplate going only if it is absolutely essential. The Iran/Iraq border area in particular should be avoided. Both countries are accessible only by road.

Should any Australians consider there are overriding reasons requiring their presence in either country they are advised to consult the Consular Section of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Canberra, telephone (062) 613189 before travelling.
