VISIT OF NAMIBIA COUNCIL MISSION TO AUSTRALIA

The Department of Foreign Affairs announced today that a mission of consultation of the United Nations Council for Namibia will be visiting Australia from 10 to 15 May 1980.

The mission will be led by the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations and will include representatives of Algeria, Belgium, India, Mexico and Senegal and a representative of the South West African People's Organisation (SWAPO).

The mission will be received by the Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs and will hold discussions with the Chairman and members of the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence of the Australian Parliament. The mission will also be received by

the Acting Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and hold consultations with the Department. The consultation will encompass the situation in Namibia, and will examine ways and means of implementing relevant United Nations resolutions on Namibia with a view to achieving self-determination, freedom and genuine

independence in a united Namibia.
