P.R. 79/5

(Statement by the Minister for Productivity, Mr Ian Macphee)

Another grant had been approved under the Government's Assistance to Inventors' Scheme, the Minister for Productivity, Mr Ian Macphee, said in Canberra today (25 Jan.). .

The $2 000 grant has been made on behalf of Mr A. Tornya, of Botany, NSW, who has developed an eccentric wedge clamp, a masonry anchor device for securing, for example, steel fabrication to concrete. ■

Tightening of the high-tensile bolt in the device produces a clamping action of the components in a hole where the device is situated. An advantage of the clamp is that, when no longer required, it is easily removed from its location for re-use.

The invention is considered to be soundly based and to have considerable merit. The grant is for the manufacture of a sample batch of clamps and for their testing.

Inquiries about the Assistance to Inventors' Scheme should be directed to Regional Offices of the Department of Productivity, •or to the Executive Officer, Australian Inventions Advisory Committee, Department of Productivity, Canberra, ACT, telephone
