TOBACCO MARKETING QUOTA

The Minister for Primary Industry, Mr. Ian Sinclair, announced

today that the marketing quota for Australian flue-cured tobacco

leaf for the 1980 selling season would be 15.1 million kg. .

Mr. Sinclair, who is Chairman of the Australian Agricultural

Council, said this had been decided by the Council on the basis

of a recommendation from the Australian Tobacco Board.

The recommendation, he said, was in accordance with the

provisions of the Tobacco Stabilisation Plan and had been made

after taking into account changes in consumption of tobacco in

Australia and the level of quota stocks held by manufacturers.

The 1980 quota of 15.1 million kg. is 200,000 kg., or 1.3 percent "

blow that set for 19 79.
