STAGE II DAIRY INDUSTRY MARKETING ARRANGEMENTS

UNDERWRITTEN QUOTA FOR BUTTER - 1978/79 SEASON

The Minister for Primary Industry, Mr. Ian "Sinclair,

announced today that the Government had decided to

increase the underwritten quota ceiling for( butter for

the 1978/79 season by 3,000 tonnes from 98,000 to 101,000

tonnes.

The Minister said that the primary purpose of the

Government *-s decision was to ensure that adequate supplies

are available for the domestic market.

Mr. Sinclair said that the additional quota of 3,000

tonnes for butter would therefore be distributed to

factories on a uniform basis on the condition that the

factories concerned provide the Australian Dairy Corporation

with an assurance that at least 50% of their additional

quota is sold before 30 June 1979 for domestic table

consumption. ยท
