HIGH COMMISSIONER TO SRI LANKA

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Andrew Peacock, today announced the appointment of Mr Warwick Mayne-Wilson as High Commissioned to Sri Lanka,

.ยท ' Mr Mayne-Wilson, who will be resident in Colombo, succeeds Mr A.H. Borthwick who is to retire after 36 years' . with the Department of Foreign Affairs,

Mr Peacock said that Australia and Sri Lanka have traditionally close and warm relations. Both countries share' many similar perceptions on major international issues and cooperate closely as fellow Commonwealth countries. Australia

respected the positive contributions which Sri Lanka continues to make as an important Third World country and as member of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Mr Mayne-Wilson, 42, has previously served in Rome, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Pretoria and Capetown, and in Cairo. He is a graduate of the University of Western Australia and is married with two children.
