-OFFICE COURSES WEIGHED UP October 1979

Membership of a committee which will examine^applications ,

for government funding of secretarial courses at non-government

business colleges in 1980 was announced today by the '

Minister Assisting the Minister for Education, Senator Chaney.

The members are: . .

Mr E.S. Rolfe, Chairman, Commonwealth Department of Education;

Mr T.G. Jones, Regional Director, Public Service Board, ACT;

Mr J.W. Ray, Secretary, Technical and Further Education Council,

Tertiary Education Commission; Mr D.K. Sholl, Principal, Holmes

Commercial College, Melbourne; Mr D.G. Smith, Principal and

Regional Director, Lisrnore Technical College.

Senator Chaney said that 1979 interim arrangements had

assisted 5400 students in 115 secretarial courses at 65 colleges.

Students in approved courses could also_ apply directly for

means-tested benefits under the Tertiary Education Assistance

Scheme (TEAS).

Funding legislation provides fcr a grant to the colleges of

$55 per student a month for a maximum of ten months covering

students in approved secretarial courses. .
