The Fuels Controller, Mr Lyall Gillespie, advised today that no ACT

service stations would be open to the public over the weekend.

The only stations that v/ould open would be the Belconnen self service

station (Esso), corner Nettlefold and Lathlain Streets and the Mobil

Times in Braddon catering for essential users with permits from 12 noon

to 4 pm each day.

Inspectors : from the Department of the Capital Territory would be

checking over the-'weekend to see that other stations did not open and

that only essential users were served at the two-mentioned stations.

The Department would be open in the North Building, London Circuit,

between 8 am and 4 pm on both days to issue permits to essential users.

Telephone inquiries could be made on 462772. '

Mr Gillespie said petrol rationing would continue for the time being as .

the position in NSW, from where the ACT got most of its fuel, was still

not satisfactory. This meant the retention of the odds and evens number

plate scheme and .the 20-litre limit. ·
