Commonwealth government to contribute $110,000 to 1979 "Quest of Quests"

The Minister for the Capital Territory, Mr Bob Ellicott, today

announced that the Commonwealth government will contribute $110,000 as

a co-sponsor of the 1979 "Quest of Quests". The national final is to

be.held in Canberra.

Mr Ellicott said the money was an investment in tourist promotion for

the ACT. He said the nationally important occasion would reinforce the

concept of Canberra as a venue for national events. At the same time,

pre-publicity at Sta^e* finals and promotions at retail stores throughout

Australia would focus attention on Canberra for the tourist.

A one-hour telecast of the national final from Canberra on 19 September

will be screened in peak viewing time and is expected to reach four million

Australians. During the telecast, Canberra's tourist attractions will

feature in all film segments introducing the finalists to the nation. .

Mr Ellicott said he welcomed Canberra's choice as host city for the

national final, of the Quest of Quests, which has raised money for many

worthwhile charities in Australia and would highlight the a/ttractions

of the capital for Australians. ·

The reigning Miss world, Silvana Suarez, from Argentina, will be

the celebrity guest for the Quest of Quests final in Canberra.
