NEW APPOINTMENT TO LAW

REFORM COMMISSION

The Attorney-General, Senator Peter Durack, 0. C . , today announced the appointment of Mr James Antonio Mazza as a part time member of the Law Reform Commission.

Mr Mazza, 53, a barrister and solicitor from

Perth, specialises in criminal law and business law.

Senator Durack said the Law Reform Commission had

before it at present references dealing with class actions, land acquisition, sentencing, reform of the child welfare laws and the law of evidence.

Mr Mazza would bring with him to the Commission a

great deal of experience in the practical application of the law and a working knowledge of how proposed reforms could best be implemented.

Mr Mazza graduated in law from the University of

Western Australia in 1948 with first class honours. He was the winner of the H.C.F. Keall prize for law and the

Benjamin Rosenstam prize for economics.

He had practised as a solicitor since then and was now the senior partner in the firm of James Mazza and Co. in Perth. He is married with four children.

Senator Durack said Mr Mazza's appointment took effect today and would be for a period of three years.
