AUSTRALIAN CANNED FRUITS BOARD

ELECTION OF CANNER MEMBERS

The Minister for Primary Industry, Mr Ian Sinclair, today

announced the timetable for the election to the Australian Canned

Fruits Board, established by the Canned Fruits Export Marketing

Act 1963, of members to represent the following interests for the

three year term commencing 30 January 1979:

(a) three members to represent co-operative canneries

of apricots, peaches and pears:

(b) three members to represent canneries other than

co-operative canneries of apricots, peaches and

pears; and

(c) one member to represent canneries of pineapples

and pineapple juice.

Mr Sinclair said that he had fixed 5 December 1978 as the

date on or before which nominations for the election of canner members

of the Board shall be lodged with the Returning Officer, Australian

Electoral Office, Level 10, Wales Centre, Akuna Street, Canberra City,

A.C.T. 2601, from whom nomination forms are obtainable.

The Minister added that the form of claims for enrolment by

canneries for thfe purposes of the forthcoming election are obtainable

from the Returning Officer, at the above address, with whom the

completed claims for enrolment are required to be lodged on or before

14 December 1978.

. Mr Sinclair said that the date fixed for the close of the poll

in the event of the election being contested is 22 January 1979.
