VISIT BY JAPANESE JEWELLERY DESIGNER

Professor Yasuki Hiramatsu, a Japanese expert in jewellery design and metal arts, will visit Australia from 12 July to 4 August. '

While in Sydney, Professor Hiramatsu, who has an international reputation as a jeweller and designer, will be a judge at the National Jewellery Design Competition on 17 July.

Professor Hiramatsu is being brought to Australia by the Department of Foreign Affairs under its Cultural Awards Scheme. The scheme aims to bring people from Asian countries eminent in the arts, humanities and sciences

so that they can exchange with their Australian counterparts ideas, techniques and current trends in their fields.

Professor Hiramatsu is Assistant Professor of Jewellery and Associated Metal Arts at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts. He is also president of the Japan Jewellery Designers Association and a board member of the main craft design associations in Japan.

In Australia, he intends to see traditional and contemporary Australian techniques in metal crafts and jewellery design and to look at teaching methods and facilities.

Professor Hiramatsu will be in Sydney from 12 to 19 July, Canberra 19 to 23 July, Melbourne 23 to 31 July and Adelaide 31 July to 4 August.
