MONDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1978. NO. 208/78


Two Navy warrant officers have shared a $1,000

first prize for being the most outstanding sailors in

the RAN.

Their win makes them the Peter Mitchell Prizemen

for 1978.

The prize is awarded for pre-eminence in academic

ability, professional attainment, character, sporting

ability and leadership.

The sailors are Warrant Officer Clearance Diver

Phillip Charles Narramore, 31, of Whalan, NSW, currently

serving at HMAS Creswell, NSW; and Warrant Officer Marine

Technical Propulsion William Thomas Weller, 34, of Baulkham

Hills, NSW, currently serving in HMAS Hobart.

The Peter Mitchell Prizeman award for the most

outstanding RAN officer in 1978, also worth $1,000, went to

Lieutenant Commander Nicholas Frederick Helver, 31, of

Hornsby Heights, NSW, who until recently was marine engineer

officer of HMAS Yarra, and is now on the staff of the

Naval Attache in Washington, USA.

The Peter Mitchell Prizemen awards were provided

for in the will of a Victorian grazier who died in 1921.
