1000TH INDONESIAN DEFENCE CO-OPERATION PROGRAM STUDENT FOR TRAINING IN AUSTRALIA

The 1000th Indonesian student to come to

Australia under the two countries1 Defence Co-operation

Program will undertake a field astronomy course at the

Army's Survey School at Bonegilla, Vic.

He is 2nd Lieutenant Andreas Pessy, of the

Indonesian Topographical Corps (TNI-AD) from Bandung.

His training is a part of the joint survey and mapping

project with Indonesia which, since 1970, has provided

extensive coverage of Kalimantan, Sumatra and Irian Jaya,

while at the same time training Indonesian surveyors in

modern survey and mapping techniques.

. A ceremony to mark the arrival of the 1000th

Indonesian student will be held at the Survey School

tomorrow (27 October). The General Officer Commanding

Training Command, Major General B.A= McDonald,-and the

Indonesian Defence Attache, Colonel Ginandjar, will exchange

commemorative plaques and there will be a presentation of

books to Lt Pessy.
