GURKHA SOLDIERS TO TRAIN IN AUSTRALIA

A contingent of 140 Gurkha soldiers from the

7th Gurkha Regiment, based in Hong Kong, would come to

Australia on a training exercise during November and

early December, the Minister for Defence, Mr D.J. Killen,

announced today.

The Gurkhas would train in the Greenbank/

Spring Mountain, Wide Bay and Canungra areas of Queensland

with 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment. .

The exercise, called Reindeer 78, would provide

a change of environment for the Gurkhas and an opportunity

for training with Australian soldiers in unfamiliar

terrain and climatic conditions.
