TWO TAIWANESE FISHING BOATS

APPREHENDED BY NAVY PATROL BOAT

Two Taiwanese stern trawler fishing vessels

have been apprehended in the Monte Bello Island group,

west of Dampier, by the Royal Australian Navy patrol boat

HMAS Ardent (Lieutenant B.G.J. Nye).

The trawlers,. the Huon Ye No. 11 and Huon Ye

No. 12 were intercepted by the patrol boat late

yesterday afternoon and are now being escorted to Darwin

where they will be handed over to Fisheries Inspectors

of the Department of Primary Industry for further

investigation.

So far this year RAN patrol boats have apprehended

five Taiwanese fishing vessels and one Japanese operating

within the declared fishing zone.
