A new paint shop- and fibreglass workshop will be built at the Edinburgh RAAF Base, South Australia, under a · $773,^50 contract announced today- by the Minister for Construction, Mr. John McLeay.

The contract awarded to T.T. Sheldrick Pty. Ltd., of Broadview, South Australia, involves a steel and brick building to cater for the full range of the Base's painting requirements up to large aircraft components and ground

support .vehicles.

Areas will be provided for the various stripping, painting and fibreglassing processes. Specialised design features and mechanical equipment will be installed to protect the building and its occupants from flammable

liquids and. explosive dust;' fire detection and suppression systems will also be fitted. . ■

Air conditioning will be ducted to all work areas and equipment will be installed to provide air suitable for breathing by personnel in health-risk areas.

■Mri McLeay- said the Department of Construction, in designing the project, had ensured that all solid and liquid wastes and air discharged from the workshop would be treated to acceptable levels before discharge into the' drainage system or atmosphere.

Mr. McLeay said the Department of Construction will supervise the project for the Department of Defence. The work is due for completion by August, 1979·

The work is part of a $17.4 million development now under way at the Base, which was the subject of investigation and favourable report last year by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works.
