NEWS RELEASE 78/26 BACA

INCREASE IN CHARGES FOR OFFICERS» SERVICES . . ' ■

The Minister for Business and Consumer Affairs, Mr Wal Fife

announced that amendments to the Customs Regulations notified today

increase the charges payable by merchants for the services of an

officer of Customs when the services are to be performed outside the

normal business hours of the Bepartment. .

. Mr Fife said: "The charge for the services of an officer

outside normal hours is increased to $7.87 per hour or part thereof..

"This charge is linked to the salary rates of officers

normally performing these services, and because there has been a

salary increase since they were last amended it has been necessary

to make this adjustment to the rate in order to recover the costs of

administration involved."
