NORTHWEST ONE-STOP WELFARE (N.O.W.) CENTRE, COBURG

The Northwest One-Stop Welfare experimental centre at Coburg in Melbourne will be continued at least until June 1978, the Prime Minister and the Victorian Premier announced today.

The N.O.W. Centre was established by the Royal Commission on Australian Government Administration in a high need area with a significant migrant population. i

It enables people to have access to a range of Commonwealth, State and non-Government services in the one location, and provides a range of resources for the use of community groups, particularly ethnic groups.

Following a review which has taken place of the operations of the Centre, the experiment will be further evaluated to assess its effect on access to government services and identification of local

needs.

The continuation of the Centre in its present form beyond June 197E depends in part on whether suitable accommodation is available for the range of services provided, and on the results of further evaluation. ;

Services provided from the Centre will continue to be provided in Coburg in .the longer term. :
