The Prime Minister is making a visit to Britain as a guest

of the British Government on 2-3 June, during the week

preceding the meeting in London of Commonwealth Beads of Government.

lie will have discussions with the British Prime Minister,

Hr. Callaghan, and with other Ministers, and a meeting with

the British Opposition Leader, Mrs. Thatcher. Be will also

have an audience with the Queen.

The Prime Minister said he welcomed this invitation to make

an official visit to Britain on the eve of the Commonwealth conference.

tie looked forward to discussions and contacts that would

strengthen the close link with Britain.

While in London, the Prime Minister will present to the

Commonwealth Secretary General, Mr. Shridath S. Ramphal, a

Silver Jubilee portrait of the Queen. Prince Charles will

attend the presentation ceremony.

The portrait, by the Australian artist, Mr. Paul Fitzgerald,

is a gift from the Australian Government. It will be on

permanent display at the Commonwealth Secretariat Headquarters at Marlborough House in London.
