MINISTER FOR EDUCATION COMMENTS ON OECD REPORT" ON THE TRANSITION FROM SCHOOL TO WORK OR FURTHER .STUtlY 1

The Commonwealth Minister for Education, Senator Carrick, said today the recent report by the panel of experts " appointed by the Organisation for Economic Coi-operation; and Development had underscored the increasing emphasis Commonwealth and State Governments had given to technical and further education. .

Australian concern with the problems of transition from, school to work had been reflected in the choice of the topic the panel had studied. , λ 1 '

A number of initiatives had already been taken in the area; including the establishment by the Commonwealth of the - Committee of Inquiry into Education and Training and the establishment by the Australian Education Council — the .

Commonwealth and State Ministers for Education — of the Working Party on the Transition from School to Work or 1 Further Study. ; '

The Working Party included representatives of Commonwealth and State authorities for education"and employment. ■ , : i ' *

Senator Carrick said it was obvious from the panel1s report that its members had found a great .deal to commend ·in Australia in the area of the topic the Australian authorities had chosen. ' · _ .

Close consultation between Commonwealth, State and non- ■ , government authorities in education and employment would continue.- : ■ > ' .
